Panch Pokhari Trek

Panch Pokhari Trek

Panch Pokhari Trek

Overview

The name of this trek is derived from Nepali word “Panch Pokhari” which means five ponds and these ponds hold religious importance according to Hindu mythology. The region where these ponds are located is just northeast of Kathmandu at the base of the beautiful Himalayan peaks and the area is full of wilderness. The area offers a combination of rich cultural heritage, unsurpassed beauty and biological diversity. The beautiful Himalayan view and pristine nature with distinct culture is the most attracting parts of the trek. This trek takes us on the less travelled route where we can visit Buddhist monasteries passing through Tamang and Sherpa villages to reach the sacred site of the five glacial lakes (Panch Pokhari); a seldom visited pilgrimage site where the Janaipurnima festival is held in August each year, and many Hindu pilgrimages visit the site to pay homage.

During the trip, trekkers will have an opportunity to observe the life styles, cultures and socio-economic conditions of the locals people in small villages along the trails and also come into contact with them to understand them better from close proximity. The trail passes through small villages of different ethnic people, dense forests and meadows. The top of the Panch Pokhari (4100 m) offers an excellent view of Gauri shanker, Dojre lakpa, Langtang Himalaya range, Jugal Himal range, Rolwaling range, etc.
